About the role
- Public health policy analyst guiding Peel Region’s family health programs through research, epidemiology, and policy analysis. Developing recommendations, reports, and presentations for population health decisions.
Responsibilities
- Apply advanced public health and/or technical knowledge regarding population health, social determinants of health, epidemiology, and evidence-informed decision making
- Provide expert interpretation of legislation and internal and external policies and procedures
- Monitor, identify, and analyze health status data, policies, and research to recommend responses to trends, risks, and opportunities
- Interpret and analyze complex information to provide strategic and operational recommendations for policy and program decisions
- Identify emerging issues and trends and incorporate findings into policy and program development recommendations
- Monitor, develop, implement, and advocate for policies with positive population health implications
- Provide expert guidance to program and evaluation planning
- Develop and maintain strategic partnerships with internal colleagues and external partners
- Incorporate diversity, ethnicity, language, and culture into research and policy analyses
- Prepare specialized documentation, reports, and statistical analyses
- Synthesize complex information into research evidence reviews, briefing documents, policy positions, council reports, and presentations
- Prepare and deliver presentations at local and provincial meetings and conferences as required
Requirements
- Completed degree in Public Health Sciences or a relevant discipline
- At least three (3) years of work experience in a Public Health setting
- Broad knowledge of public health issues and applicable legislation
- Experience in evidence-informed decision-making methodology, project management, and project leadership
- Experience with epidemiological study design and application of research evidence in practice
- Knowledge of analytical, statistical and epidemiological methods
- Experience in policy and procedure development
- Ability to work effectively within an interdisciplinary team setting and across organizational boundaries
- Ability to work with a high degree of discretion and diplomacy
- Proficient computer skills, including Excel and Visio
- Excellent facilitation, presentation, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with ability to synthesize complex information for varied audiences
- Strong research skills, including qualitative and quantitative research methods
- Strong facilitation, project management, collaboration, planning, organizational, and problem-solving skills

- Combination of education and experience may be considered
- Master's Degree in related field (nice to have)
