About the role

  • Payroll Specialist processing accurate, compliant payroll for Cogir Senior Living’s retirement residences. Managing deductions, reporting, employee support, and payroll systems in hybrid Kelowna role.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, validate, and process payroll for salaried, hourly, unionized, and non-unionized employees
  • Review timesheets, overtime calculations, premiums, bonuses, salary increases, retroactive adjustments, and payroll changes
  • Ensure timesheets use appropriate cost codes according to project budgets
  • Calculate statutory and non-statutory deductions and apply taxable benefits according to provincial tax regulations
  • Prepare and submit Records of Employment within regulatory deadlines
  • Reconcile payroll discrepancies and resolve issues
  • Ensure compliance with federal and provincial legislation and regulations
  • Identify and escalate compliance issues and recommend solutions
  • Prepare statutory remittances and government filings
  • Support year-end activities, including T4s, RL-1 slips, and required reports
  • Document internal processes and apply internal controls under Quebec’s Law 25
  • Respond to employee and stakeholder inquiries about payroll calculations, deductions, benefits, leave balances, and statutory holidays
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism
  • Ensure employee records are consistent across HR, payroll, and time management systems
  • Participate in system updates, testing, and process improvements
  • Generate payroll reports for HR, Finance, and Management

Requirements

  • Diploma of College Studies (DEC) in Accounting, Human Resources, or a related field
  • Minimum of 4 years of payroll processing experience
  • Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) certification from the National Payroll Institute, or currently pursuing certification
  • Experience with payroll and/or HRIS systems such as Nethris, Employer D, ADP, Workday, Dayforce, or UKG
  • Strong knowledge of payroll legislation and taxation requirements
  • Proficiency with payroll software, HRIS platforms, and time-tracking systems
  • Advanced Excel skills and the ability to analyze payroll data
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Excellent communication skills and a high level of discretion and confidentiality
  • Bilingualism in English/French is a strong asset
