Project Scientist/Technologist providing environmental health and safety services in Ontario with RiskCheck Inc. Focused on hazardous materials, air quality, and water assessments.
Responsibilities
Perform hazardous materials, environmental, and drinking water assessments
Execute fieldwork, sampling, and site investigations in accordance with regulatory protocols
Coordinate with Project Managers, subcontractors, laboratories, and clients
Support multiple concurrent projects while meeting timelines, budgets, and quality standards
Conduct after-hours field work as required (e.g., school-based or occupied-building projects)
Conduct historical reviews and regulatory research
Review analytical results and site findings
Assist with or prepare clear, accurate technical reports, including tables, figures, and drawings
Draft technical summaries of findings for Project Manager review
Collaborate with Project Managers to refine findings and develop recommendations for further investigation or remediation.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree or college diploma in environmental science/technology/engineering or a related field
2-3 years of progressive environmental consulting or field experience in:
Hazardous Building Materials
Indoor Air Quality
Mould Assessments
Remediation / Abatement Projects
Environmental or water sampling
Working knowledge of Ontario and Canadian environmental regulations and standards
Experience coordinating subcontractors or third-party consultants
Strong working knowledge of AutoCAD, with the ability to prepare and edit 2D drawings, diagrams, and figures to support field investigations and technical documentation.
Preferred Eligibility for registration as an environmental professional (EP) or a certified engineering technologist (CET). or other equivalent such Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP), Water Resources Technician (WRT), Advance Microbial Remediation Technician (AMRT), Canadian National Radon Proficiency Program (C-NRPP), etc.)
Drinking water sampling experience (lead, bacteria)
On-site asbestos air sampling and PCM analysis
Knowledge of building systems (HVAC, structural, plumbing, electrical)
Ability to read and interpret drawings and technical reports
Valid driver’s license
Access to a reliable personal vehicle with appropriate insurance
Must have no criminal record (required for school board work)
Willingness to travel throughout Ontario and occasionally within Canada
Willingness to work evenings, nights, and weekends as required.
