About the role
- Backend Platform Engineer scaling Hapiko’s real-time APIs, queues, infrastructure and observability. Building reliable, secure cloud systems for Spin Master’s voice-activated kids’ sticker printer.
Responsibilities
- Own the API and job queues that every sticker request runs through
- Maintain the real-time connection layer that devices rely on, partnering with the firmware engineer
- Tune and extend autoscaling for holiday spikes and fleet growth, partnering with the ML Serving engineer on GPU inference
- Mature observability through metrics, logs, tracing and alerts
- Build cost instrumentation for requests, models and services
- Own release engineering for server-side services, including safe deploys, database migrations and fast rollback
- Partner with the Trust & Safety engineer on abuse prevention, device security and privacy
- Share on-call and improve the rotation over time
- Harden, scale and set standards for Hapiko's backend foundations
Requirements
- Depth in Python and PostgreSQL
- Elixir experience, or real interest in learning it
- Experience owning production infrastructure end to end
- Experience scaling a queue-driven or real-time system through an order of magnitude of traffic growth
- Comfortable being paged for systems you own
- Ability to work on systems that are fast, safe for kids and affordable as the product scales
