About the role
- Senior Financial Analyst overseeing expense management, budgeting, reporting, and profitability analysis for Sun Life’s Group Retirement Services. Building financial insights and dashboards for Canadian business partners.
Responsibilities
- Manage the annual Cost to Serve model from data collection through report production and results analysis
- Lead analysis of profitability-growth levers at fund, member, and Client levels
- Lead expense studies and industry benchmark surveys
- Collaborate with finance and analytics resources to build and extract accurate datasets for complex business analysis
- Support month/quarter-end reporting, forecasting, and strategic planning/budgeting for expense management
- Execute month-end close processes, including accruals, expense transfers, and review of preliminary results
- Investigate and communicate expense variances to management
- Analyze expense trends and recommend savings opportunities
- Collaborate with Finance areas to improve process integration and efficiency
- Present to senior management and business-unit partners
- Prepare or assist with ad hoc analyses and projects
Requirements
- Minimum 5 years of business/accounting experience
- Strong financial analysis and model development skills
- Working knowledge of IFRS 17 and its impact on expense reporting
- Experience with expense reporting and accounting
- Proven ability to partner and build relationships
- Flexibility, adaptability, and creativity to meet deadlines and manage priorities
- Excellent PC skills, including MS Office Suite, SAP, Tableau, and Hyperion
- Highly motivated with ability to seek process improvements
- Accounting designation or Master’s degree preferred
- Experience with Activity Based Costing, Cost to Serve, or Segmentation Reporting preferred
