About the role

  • JavaScript/TypeScript SDK Engineer building open-source developer tools for Supabase’s Postgres platform. Owning SDK APIs, type systems, runtimes, realtime, releases, and public documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Build and evolve Supabase’s JavaScript and TypeScript SDKs
  • Identify missing platform capabilities, make the case for them, and build new features
  • Triage inbound issues and review and shepherd outside contributions in public repositories
  • Maintain CI and release automation and manage project scope
  • Ensure generated database types flow correctly through client APIs for accurate autocomplete and inference
  • Support Node, Deno, Bun, browsers, Cloudflare Workers, and React Native/Expo runtimes
  • Maintain dual ESM/CJS publishing and correct type resolution across module resolution modes
  • Develop realtime functionality involving WebSocket connections, reconnection, subscriptions, and presence semantics
  • Keep SDKs aligned with changes to auth, realtime, storage, PostgREST, and edge runtime services
  • Write RFCs, migration guides, release notes, changelogs, and documentation
  • Make SDKs legible to AI coding agents

Requirements

  • Expert-level TypeScript, including generics, conditional types, and mapped types
  • Authored or maintained a published library with a public API and external consumers
  • Experience working on open-source projects from the maintainer side
  • Experience with issue triage, outside pull-request reviews, release automation, changelogs, semantic versioning, and security reports
  • Fluency with npm packaging, dual ESM/CJS builds, export maps, and type resolution
  • Testing experience across unit, type-level, and end-to-end tests against a real stack
  • Strong written communication for design documents, changelogs, and public issue responses
  • Ability to work autonomously: identify, scope, and ship important work
  • Ability to communicate clearly across technical and non-technical audiences
  • Experience in async or globally distributed teams
  • Comfortable navigating ambiguity and moving quickly
  • Energized by solving real-world problems for developers
