About the role

  • Residential Field Claims Adjuster settling home insurance claims for TD Insurance in Ottawa. Inspecting property damage, determining coverage, estimating repairs, and negotiating contractor settlements.

Responsibilities

  • Handle residential claims and meet with clients to provide guidance toward claim settlement
  • Complete on-site inspections and scope damages
  • Assign appropriate contractors or suppliers as required
  • Analyze gathered information to determine coverage
  • Provide personal and legendary client service with timely follow-ups
  • Manage and settle residential claims according to operational standards
  • Balance client and insurer needs when settling claims
  • Complete estimates and negotiate with contractors on residential repairs
  • Control expenditures on claim settlements
  • Assist and help develop internal and external colleagues
  • Complete ongoing industry accreditation and training

Requirements

  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of home insurance policy coverage and claims adjudication
  • Thorough knowledge of residential construction procedures/restoration practices
  • Experience handling structural building damage claims
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Good judgment in claim settlement
  • Effective negotiation skills
  • Superior interpersonal and communication skills
  • Sound problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Excellent organization and time management skills
  • Clear Drivers Abstract
  • Strong typing and computer skills
  • Proficiency with Xactanalysis/Xactimate, Guidewire ClaimCenter and Microsoft Office
  • AMF licensing considered an asset, or willingness to complete it within the first 12 months of employment
  • Bilingualism in French and English considered a strong asset
  • Ongoing industry accreditation and training required
