About the role
- Data Editor focusing on business journalism at The Globe and Mail. Join a team utilizing data and multimedia for high-impact storytelling.
Responsibilities
- Gather, process, analyze and visualize data to support daily and enterprise business journalism.
- Collaborate with reporters, editors and visual journalists on data-driven stories and projects.
- Spot check data work done by other team members and journalists in the newsroom.
- Build and maintain tools that aid the work of reporters and editors in data reporting.
- Act as an ambassador for data literacy in journalism across the newsroom.
Requirements
- Experience working on data-driven stories and projects in a newsroom, particularly with a business focus.
- Experience with acquiring and maintaining datasets of varying sizes.
- Experience with data analysis tools like Excel or Google Sheets and coding languages like Python or R.
- Experience visualizing data with a demonstrated understanding of best practices for graphic presentation of information in journalism.
- An ability to juggle multiple projects of varying deadlines and sizes.
- Additional qualifications that would be an asset in this role:
- Experience working with the Datawrapper API.
- Experience with database management best practices and relevant AWS services.
- Knowledgeable about available business-related datasets.
- Familiarity with data visualization libraries.
