About the role

  • Deputy editor expanding The Globe and Mail’s personal finance and investing journalism. Managing contributors, assigning coverage and developing reader-focused financial tools and explainers.

Responsibilities

  • Help lead The Globe and Mail’s personal finance and investing team
  • Work with reporters, columnists and market strategists to guide and expand financial coverage
  • Find and manage new columnists
  • Assign staff writers on investing and personal finance topics
  • Manage staff performance and motivate reporters to achieve their best
  • Encourage creativity and innovation
  • Collaborate across the department and newsroom to develop tools, features, explainers and interactives
  • Use audience data to inform coverage and topic areas
  • Work with the Managing Editor of Globe Investor
  • Work with freelancers and staff reporters

Requirements

  • At least five years of previous editing and assigning experience
  • Experience cultivating new writers with an eye to diversifying contributors
  • Ability to think beyond standard storytelling formats
  • Ability to assist in developing new tools and interactives
  • Comfortable working in live blogs, newsletters, video and audio
  • Avid news consumer
  • Previous experience working in business journalism
  • Previous managing or supervisory experience is an asset
