About the role

  • Analytics Engineer building Snowflake and dbt data platforms for Tucows’ Internet businesses. Applying AI, SQL, Looker, and Python to drive data-informed decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain complex data models in Snowflake
  • Build efficient data pipelines and transformations using dbt
  • Implement conversational data queries and AI-driven insights using Snowflake Intelligence features such as Cortex Analyst, Cortex Agents, Cortex Search, and AISQL
  • Develop advanced SQL queries and analyze large datasets to identify patterns, trends, and opportunities
  • Develop, maintain, and optimize Looker dashboards and LookML
  • Enable stakeholders to interact with data through natural-language queries
  • Collaborate with product, engineering, business, and other stakeholders to deliver data-driven solutions
  • Identify opportunities to implement AI, machine learning, and NLP technologies
  • Write Python code for data analysis, processing, and automation
  • Use shell scripting and command-line tools to support data workflows
  • Integrate tested code into automated workflows such as Airflow job scheduling
  • Create visualizations and presentations for senior management and cross-functional teams
  • Stay current with data engineering, analytics, dbt, Snowflake, and BI innovations
  • Improve the organization’s analytics stack, data practices, and data culture

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Statistics, or a related field
  • 2+ years of experience in data analytics or a related field
  • Significant exposure to AI and Machine Learning applications in analytics
  • Advanced SQL skills with complex queries on large-scale datasets
  • Hands-on experience with dbt for building, testing, and documenting data models
  • Expert-level knowledge of data modeling and data warehouse concepts
  • Experience with Snowflake and familiarity with advanced Snowflake AI capabilities
  • Strong skills in Looker and LookML or similar BI tools
  • Proficiency in Python, including pandas and NumPy
  • Experience with shell scripting and command-line tools
  • Familiarity with ETL processes, Apache Airflow or similar orchestration tools, and Docker
  • Experience with AWS or GCP cloud platforms
  • Solid understanding of Git and CI/CD processes
  • Familiarity with agile development methodologies
  • Excellent communication, presentation, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
  • Experience working on cross-functional teams and translating business needs into technical solutions
  • Experience implementing data governance best practices and ensuring data quality and consistency
  • Knowledge of data ethics, bias mitigation, and data privacy regulations such as GDPR and CCPA
