About the role

  • U-Haul rental equipment repair shop manager directing truck and trailer maintenance, repairs, inventory, budgets, and personnel. Ensuring safety certification and serviceability of rental equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Profitably direct shop personnel under the direction of the Marketing Company President
  • Operate a rental equipment repair shop normally consisting of six to 15 repair shop personnel
  • Direct preventive maintenance and repair of U-Haul trucks and trailers
  • Direct major preventive maintenance services on the rotation truck fleet
  • Direct standard preventive maintenance services on rotation and one-way truck fleets
  • Direct repair of trailers, support rental items, and general rental items
  • Manage parts inventory, including establishing minimums and maximums for accurate inventory control
  • Maintain ongoing educational training through the JET Program and other U-Haul training programs
  • Perform truck and trailer repairs, including engine, transmission, drivetrain, and van body repairs
  • Manage sublet vendors for specialized work such as collision damage
  • Ensure rental equipment passes a Safety Certification Inspection before release into rental service
  • Handle personnel administration, including hiring, promoting, evaluating performance, training, disciplining, and terminating shop personnel
  • Consult with the Marketing Company President and U-Haul Technical Center regarding policies, programs, and shop capability upgrades

Requirements

  • Must be able to safely operate a motor vehicle
  • Understand the concept of productionizing and be able to implement it
  • Develop specialization of labor and use qualification matrix with shop staff
  • Be familiar with warranty procedures and guidelines
  • Be goal oriented
  • Must be familiar with U-Haul Product Standards
  • Follow repair campaigns and special programs exactly; maintain quotas and/or goals
  • Ensure equipment repair is within published repair limits or obtain authorizations from the U-Haul Technical Center for repairs exceeding those limits before beginning repairs
  • Ensure equipment is repaired with economy and effectiveness and within established monthly repair budgets
  • Ensure all Company funds are promptly remitted to U-Haul International according to established policies
  • Ensure quality and total serviceability of repaired products
  • Must perform safety certifications
  • Be familiar with U-Haul financial guidelines pertaining to profit and loss concepts, profit sharing, and related matters
  • Comply with all U-Haul programs, policies, and procedures
  • Encourage participation in Ford and GMC training classes and the Joint Efforts in Training (JET) Program
  • Must be 18 or older
