About the role

  • UMGC assistant director overseeing military degree planning and tuition-assistance services for active-duty members and DoD civilians. Leading staff, operations, reporting, and process improvement remotely across North America.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with strategic planning, implementation, and daily operations of the Military Degree Plan Team
  • Supervise, coach, mentor, and manage performance for MDP Coordinators
  • Oversee employee development, onboarding, and training
  • Serve as primary backup to the Director and assume leadership responsibilities during the Director’s absence
  • Act as subject matter expert on evaluated military degree plans, military education benefits, and degree planning processes
  • Collaborate with university departments, military education centers, and external partners to improve service delivery and workflows
  • Participate in committees, presentations, information sessions, conferences, and military education events
  • Manage responses to Salesforce cases and monitor service levels
  • Evaluate processes, procedures, and policies and recommend improvements
  • Contribute to backlog management, documentation updates, degree plan fixes, and external rejection resolution
  • Support workforce development, career path, and career ladder initiatives
  • Research and implement technologies and solutions to improve operational effectiveness and customer service
  • Support military education agreements and AU-ABC degree mapping projects
  • Prepare, review, and process PeopleSoft Evaluated Military Degree Plans for active-duty military members
  • Develop and maintain reports, dashboards, and data queries for leadership
  • Conduct operational analyses and provide findings for executive presentations and strategic planning
  • Support special projects and strategic initiatives
  • Travel periodically to Adelphi, Maryland, as business needs require
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in academic advising, military education, student services, or a related higher education field
  • Minimum one (1) year of supervisory, lead, or leadership experience
  • Demonstrated understanding of military education benefits and degree planning processes
  • Experience using data and reporting tools for strategic planning and operational decision making
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities, projects, and deadlines
  • Demonstrated leadership, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders at all organizational levels
  • Experience using PeopleSoft, Salesforce, and degree audit systems
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite

  • Master's degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning preferred
  • Experience with student advising, credit evaluation, enrollment management, military education, or related higher education functions preferred
  • Experience working with diverse student, military, and professional populations preferred
  • Experience leading organizational or process improvement initiatives preferred
