Seeking qualified Apprentice and Journeyman Powerline Technicians to build and maintain Alberta’s electrical infrastructure through effective teamwork and safety practices.
Responsibilities
Victor Energy Ltd is a powerline contractor with over 30 years experience building Alberta’s electrical infrastructure, recently acquired by Java Holdings Ltd. Java staff have over 50 years of experience building some of Canada’s largest electrical infrastructure projects. We are seeking qualified Apprentice and Journeyman Powerline Technicians.
Requirements
**RESPONSIBILITIES:**
Experience working on steel tower transmission line on puller/tension sites
Climbing and working from heights up to 200 feet and working parallel to energized circuits
Erect and maintain steel, wood or concrete poles, towers and guy wires
Splice, solder and insulate conductors and related wiring to connect power distribution and transmission networks
Open and close switches and install grounding devices to lines and equipment under the direct supervision of a Journeyman or Foreman.
May climb poles and/or ride in bucket to install or repair wires, arms, insulators or other hardware on poles. Install and repair underground facilities such as cable, transformers, potheads and pedestals.
Install pole hardware and auxiliary equipment such as transformers, lightning arresters, switches, fuses and insulators, using hand tools and mechanical devices. May cover energized lines with rubber goods to facilitate safe handling of high-voltage lines without interrupting service.
Use insulated poles (hot sticks) fitted with mechanically or hydraulically operated grasping and crimping tools and/or rubber gloves and sleeves to perform energized line work.
The ability to work at heights on wood poles, steel towers, etc. in adverse weather conditions
**EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:**
Valid Apprentice/Journeyman certificate for Powerline Technician
2 - 3 years’ experience
**KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:**
Strength, stamina, and the use of proper lifting techniques required to work with equipment weighing in excess of 30 lbs
Good physical coordination and manual dexterity
Mechanical ability
Good hearing and color vision
Ability to work as a member of a team and adapt to changing tasks and locations
Demonstrate a punctual and sound work ethic
Willingness to travel
