About the role
- Product Engineer modernizing Xero’s accounting platform from monolith to scalable C#/.NET and AWS microservices. Improving service reliability, database scalability, and developer efficiency.
Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality, impactful, robust, scalable software aligned with team and business goals
- Identify and solve complex, ambiguous problems independently
- Focus on systems, scalability, and engineering quality
- Collaborate across teams to drive technical excellence and developer efficiency
- Keep stakeholders informed and aligned through clear communication

- Participate in planning, delivery, and continuous improvement
- Transition from monolithic architecture to modern microservices
- Build and operate production cloud services using C#, .NET Core, and AWS
- Resolve legacy problems and database scalability challenges
- Modernize service interfaces and APIs
- Automate manual processes and apply test-driven and trunk-based development practices
Requirements
- Proficient backend development experience with one or more of C#, .NET, Java, or Go
- Solid understanding of distributed systems concepts, including service-to-service communication, eventual consistency, and resilience patterns
- Practical experience with relational databases where transactional data integrity and ACID principles are critical
- Working knowledge of modern DevOps practices, automated testing, and continuous integration pipelines
- Interest in utilizing modern artificial intelligence tools
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Capacity to manage internal stakeholders like a technical product partner
- Must have working rights for the country this role is based in
- Satisfactory completion of relevant background checks may be required
