Technical Engineer/Officer needed to provide technical evaluations and coordinate work for facility commissioning, operation, and maintenance, focusing on fire protection compliance.
Responsibilities
Provide technical evaluations and advice, solve problems and coordinate technical work as required in major work areas in support of commissioning, operation, and maintenance of facilities. Receive assignments from Supervisor and identify potential problems and opportunities in assigned systems. Prepare reports to provide information and data for external requests or historical purposes. Initiate studies where opportunities for improvement are identified. Review proposals from internal or external sources, suggest revisions, and recommend disposition to Supervisor for approval authority. Prepare specifications for purchasing requisitions for materials, services, and equipment and provide technical support during installation. Provide support ensuring compliance with CSA N293, CSA N393, and NFPA codes related to fire protection programs. Provide expert guidance on fire hazard assessment, equipment lifecycle, and compliance with licensing codes, federal laws, and Fire Protection procedures. Ensure fire protection systems are operational and maintain compliance through compensatory measures and updated standards and procedures aligned with CNSC requirements. Assist with fire risk assessments, Fire Safe Shutdown Analysis, and develop response plans based on licensing basis. Develop processes to identify risk changes and recommend updates to fire response protocols. Liaise with departments to identify solutions and improve Fire Protection service delivery efficiency and effectiveness. Ensure CNSC correspondence and corrective actions are properly prepared and addressed. Support coordination with internal and external emergency response and fire protection groups.
Requirements
Requires knowledge of Fire Protection, engineering, and economics to understand facility operations. Requires knowledge of Fire Hazard Assessment, Fire Safe Shutdown Assessment, National Building Code of Canada, National Fire Code of Canada, and CSA N293 to improve systems in nuclear facilities. Requires strong English communication skills for reporting and documentation. This knowledge is normally acquired through completion of a four-year engineering degree or equivalent education and experience.
