About the role
- Senior Developer migrating 1Password’s authentication services from a monolith to scalable independent infrastructure. Building secure sign-in systems for businesses and individuals using Go and distributed data technologies.
Responsibilities
- Own portions of the migration from the authentication monolith to an independent service, from design through rollout and production support
- Migrate authentication endpoints and data tables using weighted rollouts, consistency checks, and tested rollback procedures
- Move MFA, SSO, and device-enrollment flows to the new service
- Build SLOs and monitoring for every endpoint
- Make and document technical decisions while balancing delivery and maintainability
- Contribute to the team roadmap by identifying technical opportunities and risks up to six months ahead
- Improve code quality, testing coverage, and team documentation
- Collaborate with Authorization, Identity Services, Security, and product teams
- Apply human judgment and careful validation to AI-assisted security-critical code
- Participate in the on-call rotation for a tier 0 service
Requirements
- Significant experience building backend services in Go
- Track record of owning medium-to-large projects from design through production
- Experience with distributed systems and data
- Experience with event streaming or change data capture using Kafka
- Experience with relational databases such as MySQL
- Experience changing systems while they serve production traffic
- Working knowledge of OAuth, OIDC, WebAuthn, passkeys, MFA, or other security-sensitive systems
- Quality mindset, including writing regression-catching tests and documenting work
- Clear communication and ability to work through requirements with partner teams
- Ability to provide constructive feedback in reviews and design discussions
- Bonus: experience moving functionality out of a monolith
- Bonus: Redis, other session stores, or DynamoDB
- Bonus: familiarity with SRP or other password-authenticated key exchange protocols
- Bonus: on-call and incident response for services with strict availability targets
- Must already be legally authorized to work in the United States or Canada; no sponsorship, relocation assistance, or visa transfer
