About the role
- Engineering Tech Lead owning architecture for CARET’s AI-accelerated legal data migration platform. Building scalable extraction, transformation, orchestration, and go-live capabilities for law firms.
Responsibilities
- Own the architecture across extraction, transformation, and orchestration for the full migration pipeline
- Translate technical strategy into buildable platform increments with the team
- Develop deep knowledge of the CARET Legal data model and its relationship to application behavior, workflows, and customer outcomes
- Understand legal practice management and accounting workflows, customer problems, and data relationships
- Design scalable, accurate, traceable migration systems for legal practice data across firms and source systems
- Build repeatable go-live patterns that make migrations faster and more predictable
- Shape problems into buildable work with the technical product manager and make disciplined delivery tradeoffs
- Apply AI to migration assessment, mapping, validation, and engineering workflows where it improves speed, quality, and scalability
- Lead the team and establish technical standards, documentation, and handoff practices
- Serve as technical point of contact for operations and migrations, aligning decisions with planning and customer delivery needs
- Partner with the technical product manager on roadmap priorities and lead the team through design, implementation, and delivery
Requirements
- 8+ years building data-intensive backend systems, including experience leading architecture across a team
- Ability to reverse engineer application systems through forensic analysis of underlying data structures and storage
- Deep experience building reliable data pipelines and ETL/ELT systems, including extraction, change data capture, transformation, and orchestration at scale
- Hands-on experience with SQL, a transformation framework such as dbt, and cloud orchestration such as Microsoft Fabric or Azure Data Factory
- Strong focus on correctness, observability, and traceability in data engineering
- Ability to operate as a hands-on technical lead, setting direction, raising the engineering bar, and contributing code
- Pragmatism about scope and sequencing, with judgment to balance platform foundations with practical AI and automation
- Experience leading data migration or system-to-system consolidation initiatives
- Experience with multi-tenant SaaS applications and systems
- Experience in legal, fintech, healthcare, or another domain requiring correctness, confidentiality, and compliance
- Experience building a new platform or team from the ground up
- Experience applying AI or LLMs to accelerate data mapping, assessment, or transformation
