- Senior backend engineer building high-availability orchestration systems for Affirm’s buy-now-pay-later platform. Leading delivery, technical standards, reliability, and engineering talent development.
Responsibilities
- Own and deliver quarterly goals for the team
- Lead engineers through ambiguity to solve open-ended problems
- Support team members throughout delivery
- Collaborate with product management, design and analytics during ideation and product development
- Articulate technical constraints and partner on decisions considering risks and trade-offs
- Identify, advocate for, and lead resolution of project, process, technology or business issues
- Create and monitor metrics for team artifacts
- Escalate issues and support keep-the-lights-on and on-call efforts
- Set or improve code review and design standards
- Advocate for quality and ownership through writing and tech talks
- Develop team talent through feedback and guidance
- Build backend orchestration layers driving Web and Mobile surfaces
- Own and deliver high-availability, low-latency systems
Requirements
- 4+ years of experience designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale
- Experience using languages like Python or Kotlin
- Track record developing highly available distributed systems
- Experience with AWS, MySQL and Kubernetes
- Experience working close to web and mobile layers
- Understanding of frontend design patterns such as fraud prevention and backend-for-frontend
- Experience defining technical plans for significant features or system components
- Elegant, simple and extensible design skills
- Ability to write high-quality, understandable code
- Proficiency making significant changes in a large code base safely
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Reside in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, or Saskatchewan
