Responsibilities

  • Build and evolve the Python SDK across database, auth, storage, realtime, and functions
  • Develop sync and async APIs that feel natural in Python
  • Identify missing capabilities, advocate for them, and build them independently
  • Triage inbound issues and review and shepherd external contributions
  • Maintain CI and release automation
  • Own the SDK typing experience and ensure checker-friendly behavior
  • Test across multiple Python versions, sync and async frameworks, workers, serverless environments, and notebooks
  • Implement and maintain realtime functionality, including long-lived WebSocket connections, reconnection, subscription, and presence semantics
  • Track platform changes across auth, realtime, storage, PostgREST, and Edge Functions and update the SDK and changelog
  • Write RFCs, migration guides, release notes, and documentation
  • Improve SDK usability for AI coding agents
  • Collaborate with SDK, Auth, Realtime, Storage, PostgREST, Functions, CLI, Docs, and open-source communities

Requirements

  • Deep knowledge of modern Python typing, including generics, protocols, overloads, and TypedDict
  • Experience using strict type checking and avoiding unnecessary Any
  • Authored or maintained a published library with a public API and external users
  • Open-source maintainer experience, including issue triage, external pull-request reviews, release automation, changelogs, semantic versioning, and security reports
  • Fluency in asyncio and experience supporting sync and async callers
  • Knowledge of Python library packaging, including pyproject.toml, wheels, modern tooling, and version-support policies
  • Testing experience with unit, type-level, and end-to-end tests against a real stack
  • Strong writing skills for design documents, changelogs, issue replies, and public documentation
  • Ability to work autonomously and scope and deliver work independently
  • Clear communication with technical and non-technical audiences
  • Experience working in async or globally distributed teams
  • Comfort navigating ambiguity and moving quickly
  • Bonus: experience with major-version migrations for public packages, JWT/OAuth, AI agent framework integrations, or schema-generated idiomatic clients

Benefits

  • Fully remote work
  • WeWork membership or co-working allowance usable anywhere in the world
  • ESOP (equity ownership) for every team member
  • Tech allowance for laptop, monitor, headphones, or other work equipment
  • Health insurance covered 100% for employees and 80% for dependents, wherever you are
  • Annual company off-sites
  • Flexible, asynchronous work
  • Annual education allowance for courses, books, conferences, or other professional development
