About the role
- Backend engineer building scalable partner and merchant APIs for Affirm's buy-now-pay-later platform. Developing distributed systems with Python or Kotlin, AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.
Responsibilities
- Work on tasks contributing to the Partner Merchant Interfaces - Integration team's projects and goals
- Develop and maintain APIs used by partners and merchants to integrate with Affirm
- Collaborate proactively with the team and stakeholders
- Communicate risks and trade-offs related to work
- Balance speed and quality while protecting systems from downtime
- Participate in growth and development activities
- Design, develop and launch backend systems at scale
Requirements
- Previous work or internship experience designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale
- Experience using Python or Kotlin
- Familiarity with distributed systems
- Familiarity with AWS, MySQL and Kubernetes
- Ability to design solutions involving multiple software components
- Ability to write clear, well-tested and extensible code
- Comfort navigating a large code base and debugging others' code
- Experience providing feedback through code reviews
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Must reside in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, or Saskatchewan
