About the role

  • Electrical project engineering specialist supporting capital projects across Alcoa’s Canadian aluminum operations. Providing electrical, automation, instrumentation, controls, and systems integration expertise.

Responsibilities

  • Define electrical requirements, control interfaces, and technical deliverables with project managers throughout all project phases
  • Prepare, review, and technically validate drawings, specifications, bid packages, equipment lists, and engineering documentation
  • Coordinate technical activities with engineering firms, systems integrators, contractors, suppliers, and internal stakeholders
  • Contribute to feasibility studies, option evaluations, preliminary estimates, schedules, and technical recommendations
  • Participate in design reviews, constructability assessments, risk reviews, systems integration activities, and commissioning efforts
  • Identify technical challenges, recommend solutions, and support continuous improvement of engineering standards and practices
  • Support the definition, development, and execution of capital projects focused on electrical systems, instrumentation, automation, industrial controls, and systems integration
  • Travel regularly to facilities throughout the Northeast region to maintain a field presence and support local teams
  • Report to the Regional Capital Projects Engineering Manager

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Automated Production Engineering, or an equivalent recognized engineering discipline
  • Minimum five (5) years of relevant experience in electrical engineering, automation, industrial controls, industrial projects, maintenance, or reliability
  • Experience supporting capital project development and execution, preferably within FEL processes, engineering deliverables, and multidisciplinary project environments
  • Strong understanding of electrical systems, instrumentation, automation technologies, and industrial control architectures
  • Ability to review, interpret, and validate technical drawings, specifications, engineering documentation, and system designs while collaborating effectively with diverse stakeholders
  • Experience with machine safety and a demonstrated commitment to maintaining safe, reliable, and compliant work practices
  • Functional bilingualism (French and English), both spoken and written, is required
  • Knowledge of aluminum smelters, heavy industrial operations, manufacturing environments, electrical distribution systems, or advanced control systems
