About the role
- Senior Software Developer building backend-heavy workforce communication and scheduling software at Vocantas. Delivering .NET, C#, Vue.js, APIs, distributed systems, and AI capabilities.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop backend services using .NET 9 and C#, alongside frontend functionality using Vue.js or similar JavaScript frameworks
- Take technical ownership of significant pieces of larger projects, from design through development, testing, and delivery
- Break down work so it can be clearly shared across a small group of developers
- Build secure, reliable software for customers in security- and reliability-critical industries
- Apply domain-driven design and microservices principles to product problems
- Design and optimize relational databases, including Microsoft SQL
- Build and maintain REST APIs, asynchronous messaging, and distributed systems
- Identify technical blockers early and work with the team to find practical solutions
- Lead code reviews and maintain standards for quality, security, performance, and maintainability
- Use AI development tools such as GitHub Copilot and Claude in the day-to-day workflow
- Contribute to AI functionality built into Vocantas products
- Evaluate models and approaches based on performance, cost, reliability, and the problem being solved
- Collaborate with Product, QA, and other developers to turn requirements into working software
- Work closely with junior developers by sharing experience, reviewing work, and helping them think through technical problems
Requirements
- 5+ years of professional software development experience, with strong backend experience
- Strong hands-on experience with .NET and C#, including recent experience with modern .NET
- Experience with Vue.js and TypeScript; experience with Angular or another modern JavaScript framework is also relevant
- Practical experience applying domain-driven design and microservices architecture
- Experience working with Microsoft SQL or another relational database
- Experience building and integrating REST APIs
- Comfort working across the stack when needed
- Regular experience using AI-assisted development tools as part of your workflow
- Strong communication skills, including the ability to raise blockers early, ask questions when requirements are unclear, and work openly with teammates
- Ability to take ownership of your work while contributing effectively within a small development team
- Experience building AI-powered functionality into a software product, including working with models or AI pipelines, strongly preferred
- Experience with message brokers, asynchronous systems, or high-traffic distributed applications, strongly preferred
- Experience working with secure software in healthcare, manufacturing, or another environment with strong security requirements, strongly preferred
