About the role

  • Electrical Engineer performing design and engineering work for CANDU nuclear systems. Collaborating with clients and stakeholders, supervising junior engineers, and preparing technical documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Perform engineering work following AtkinsRéalis/Candu Energy procedures and QA programs, and applicable codes, standards, and regulatory requirements
  • Coordinate and interface with client(s), suppliers, stakeholders and other design disciplines to execute assigned engineering work
  • Prepare technical documents, such as: engineering drawings, change paper markups, calculations, design/analysis reports, bill of materials, design specifications, etc.
  • Prepare requisitions or Engineering Quotation Requests (EQR) for equipment and materials to support procurement
  • Provide technical guidance and instruction to Designers/Drafters
  • Supervise, coordinate and review the work of junior and assistant engineers/designers; preparing estimates and monitoring schedules
  • Assist field construction and execution activities, such as: field changes, design revisions, commissioning, etc.

Requirements

  • Engineering Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university or equivalent degree recognized by Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO)
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario
  • 8+ years of related work experience in electrical engineering and power systems design preferably in the nuclear industry
  • 0 to 2 years of design experience in Nuclear Power Plants would be an asset
  • Experience with medium voltage and low voltage power distribution systems
  • Good knowledge and experience of CANDU nuclear electrical power systems
  • Familiar with specifying and procurement support for electrical equipment such as Transformers, MCCs, UPS systems including rectifiers and inverters.
  • Adequate knowledge of established Nuclear QA guidelines, procedures and practices is preferable.
  • Site experience in construction, or commissioning of electrical systems for nuclear or other heavy industries would be an asset
