About the role

  • Bilingual Tax Administrator managing audits, remittances, and tax slip production at Aviso, a Canadian wealth management and investment services provider.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure scheduled tax audits are processed and completed within deadlines
  • Complete transaction corrections before tax production
  • Address tax-related requests within SLA deadlines
  • Produce tax slips and submit files to DOXIM
  • Review vendor portals for accurate and current instructions
  • Escalate tax-related issues requiring management intervention
  • Stay current on CRA, IRS Qualified Intermediary/FATCA, and CRS rules and regulations
  • Prepare and/or review year-end tax reporting forms for Plan and Non-Plan client accounts
  • Monitor CRA, MRQ, IRS and CIRO websites for tax changes, share information, and update procedures
  • Gather information for internal and external auditors
  • Support proper Client Reporting
  • Review monthly tax audit processes and validate tax reports against internal account data
  • Identify and resolve outstanding items, discrepancies, and escalated issues
  • Identify and implement process improvements
  • Perform tax remittances and balance internal control accounts against CRA, MRQ and IRS remittance accounts
  • Process weekly/monthly withholding tax remittances within deadlines
  • Ensure accurate and timely non-resident and back-up withholding tax charging and remittance
  • Maintain departmental procedures and recommend workflow improvements
  • Report to the Senior Manager, Tax and collaborate with Reconciliation, Processing, Corporate Actions, and Tax teams

Requirements

  • Post-secondary education, designation in accounting, business and/or financial administration
  • 4-6 years of experience in the financial services industry, preferably in tax reporting
  • Industry knowledge of CRA and CIRO rules and regulations
  • Successful completion of the Canadian Securities Course or SIMA Operations Course would be an asset
  • Fluency (written and spoken) in English and French are required
  • Ability to work independently and on a team
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Pro-active and superior problem-solving abilities and strong analytical skills
  • Excellent customer service orientation
  • Extremely detail oriented and accurate
  • Ability to work well under pressure and meet time constraints
  • Intermediate computer skills in Word & Outlook; advanced skills in Excel and Access
