About the role
- Senior Developer leading design, integration, and modernization of enterprise applications for British Columbia’s energy regulator. Providing technical leadership, DevOps expertise, and mentorship across complex digital initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Lead the technical design, development, integration, testing, implementation, and stabilization of complex enterprise applications and assigned solution components
- Ensure technical integrity, quality, operational readiness, and conformance with approved requirements and architecture direction
- Evaluate technical alternatives and recommend approaches balancing business needs, security, privacy, accessibility, scalability, performance, maintainability, integration, operational supportability, and long-term sustainability
- Champion development standards, controls, patterns, and practices, including coding, peer review, testing, documentation, release management, technical debt, and application lifecycle requirements
- Provide senior technical leadership in the use and continuous improvement of source control, branching strategies, CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, build and release tooling, code repositories, packages, and development and test environments
- Conduct technical and code reviews and quality assurance activities for complex or high-risk changes
- Investigate and resolve highly complex, ambiguous, or cross-system technical problems and provide technical leadership during significant incidents or production issues
- Provide technical input to project and release planning, estimation, sequencing, and delivery decisions
- Lead technical delivery of assigned work packages or solution components and coordinate activities with cross-functional team members and vendors
- Create and maintain solution architecture records, technical designs, integration specifications, deployment instructions, operational procedures, decision records, and other documentation
- Provide mentorship, coaching, paired-development support, and knowledge transfer to other developers
- Evaluate emerging technologies and development practices, including AI-enabled solutions, and provide recommendations
- Represent the software development team on complex cross-functional initiatives and advise stakeholders on solution options, risks, dependencies, trade-offs, and recommended approaches
Requirements
- A degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in a related field, such as Computer Science or Software Engineering, and five years of related experience
- OR a technical diploma in a related field, such as Computer Science or Software Engineering, and six years of related experience
- An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered
- Experience in software development, including full-stack development and system integration
- Experience leading technical design, development, integration, implementation, and support of complex enterprise applications
- Experience evaluating solution options and making or recommending technical decisions involving architecture, integration, security, privacy, performance, accessibility, and operational supportability
- Experience applying and improving development standards, practices, and application lifecycle controls, including code review, automated testing, technical documentation, and release management
- Experience with DevOps practices and development infrastructure, including source control, branching strategies, CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, build and release automation, code repositories, packages, and development and test environments
- Proficiency with modern programming languages, frameworks, tools, and integration practices relevant to enterprise application development, including C#, .NET, TypeScript, Angular, Python, RESTful APIs, database migration tooling, and Azure DevOps or equivalent technologies
- Experience diagnosing and resolving highly complex and ambiguous technical issues across multiple systems
- Experience leading technical delivery for complex initiatives or solution components, including estimation, dependency and risk assessment, and coordination with cross-functional teams, vendors, and business stakeholders
- Experience communicating technical options, risks, dependencies, and trade-offs to technical and non-technical stakeholders and providing recommendations to management
- Experience providing technical leadership through design and code reviews, technical coaching, mentorship, and knowledge transfer
- Experience evaluating or prototyping emerging technologies, development tools, or practices, including artificial intelligence-enabled solutions
