About the role

  • Supervisor responsible for overseeing reservoir engineering and managing subsurface resources at BC Energy Regulator. Leading a technical team to ensure responsible production and resource conservation.

Responsibilities

  • The Supervisor, Reservoir Engineering (Supervisor) leads a team of engineers, technologists, and technical staff responsible for the stewardship of BC’s subsurface resources ensuring responsible production of oil and natural gas and active management of storage and disposal capacity.
  • The Reservoir Engineering program area issues approvals and orders, based on industry applications or through proactive resource conservation initiatives.
  • Reservoir Engineering is also responsible for the engineering aspects of induced seismicity oversight, publishing annual provincial hydrocarbon reserves information and the targeted collection, analysis and management of subsurface reservoir engineering data.
  • The Supervisor serves as the BCER’s technical lead in provincial subsurface energy resources, government regulation pertaining to reservoir management practices, and effective resource conservation management strategies.
  • The Supervisor has a key role in actively developing and promoting use of best practices and resource conservation strategies with industry.
  • The role works collaboratively with members of the Drilling & Production, Energy Geoscience, and the Legal & Regulatory groups to support the BCER’s mandate.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in Engineering and twelve years of relevant experience; OR
  • A master’s degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in Engineering and ten years of relevant experience.
  • Incumbent must be a registered member in good standing, or be eligible to register, with the Engineers & Geoscientists of British Columbia (EGBC) as Professional Engineer (P. Eng.).
  • Demonstrated experience with exploration, development and/or regulation of hydrocarbon reservoirs in the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin with preference given to those with BC experience.
  • Demonstrated experience with applicable standards and legislation including, but not limited to, the Energy Resource Activities Act and Drilling and Production Regulation.
  • Demonstrated understanding of data governance, quality management practices, and enterprise data standards.
  • Demonstrated project management expertise, including the development of detailed project plans, coordination and scheduling of activities, managing budgets, and successful execution of project deliverables.
  • Demonstrated experience communicating effectively across all levels of the organization, ensuring alignment and clarity for technical and non-technical audiences, including leading presentations, Executive briefings, and providing strategic advice.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the role and impacts of the BCER and energy industry on reconciliation with First Nations.
  • Demonstrated experience leading and developing multi-disciplinary, technical teams in a complex working environment.
