About the role

Lead Backend Engineer designing and building backend services for AI agents platform at Botpress. Collaborating with teams to improve system performance and reliability.

Responsibilities

Lead the design and development of backend services and APIs that support mission-critical product features
Own architecture decisions around scalability, reliability, and performance
Collaborate closely with product, frontend, and platform teams to deliver end-to-end solutions
Build and maintain distributed systems, databases, and internal tooling
Establish strong engineering practices around code quality, testing, observability, and deployment
Mentor and support other engineers through technical guidance and review
Drive improvements in system performance, security, and infrastructure efficiency
Help define backend technical strategy as the company scales

5+ years of experience with high-scale SaaS platforms, developer tools, and/or AI-driven products
Deep expertise in JavaScript/TypeScript, Nodejs, and operating backend systems in production
You’ve led technical projects end-to-end and enjoy taking ownership
Strong understanding of APIs, databases, distributed systems, and cloud infrastructure
Comfortable balancing speed and quality in a fast-moving environment
You write clean, maintainable code and care about long-term system health
You enjoy mentoring teammates and setting a high engineering bar
You thrive in collaborative teams where engineering and product work closely together
