About the role

  • Financial Accountant preparing financial statements, reconciliations, and regulatory filings for a member-owned British Columbia credit union. Supporting audits, tax records, reporting improvements, and junior staff mentoring.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and provide quality financial information through analysis, financial statement presentation, and review
  • Complete regular accounting, reporting, and reconciliations across all business lines
  • Maintain records for centralized purchasing, capital asset tracking, GST/PST, and corporate income tax filings
  • Support administration of commissioned employment contracts
  • Assist the AVP Finance with regulatory filing requirements
  • Prepare year-end working papers
  • Support internal and external audit reviews
  • Implement changes to improve accuracy and efficiency in reporting
  • Provide support to the Finance department, including mentoring junior staff

Requirements

  • Completion of a Business Degree or Diploma specializing in Finance or Accounting
  • Working toward or possessing CPA accounting designation
  • Minimum five years of progressive experience in an accounting/finance role
  • Solid understanding of financial statement presentation, full cycle accounting, and internal controls
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel knowledge, including pivot tables, lookup functions, and data management
  • Familiarity with IFRS reporting requirements and/or corporate income tax preparation considered an asset
  • Previous financial institution and/or insurance accounting experience considered an asset
  • High attention to detail and research skills
  • Ability to balance and report accounting transactions accurately with minimal supervision
  • Ability to interpret accounting transactions and ensure reliable, consistent financial information
  • Critical thinking, interpersonal, problem-solving, accountability, and dependability skills
