About the role

  • Senior Linux systems specialist supporting client infrastructure for a Linux, Open Source, DevOps, and Kubernetes consultancy. Managing alerts, patching, deployments, cloud systems, and infrastructure roadmaps remotely.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the team and serve customers
  • Creatively solve technical problems with clients’ businesses in mind
  • Communicate and handle client requests
  • Handle client system alerts
  • Conduct client system patching and health checks
  • Perform deployments according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Onboard new clients and create infrastructure-improvement roadmaps
  • Track time for all hours worked
  • Work some after-hours
  • Maintain and improve client infrastructure involving server support, infrastructure design, cloud management, data backups, network security, disaster recovery, Linux, open source, DevOps, and Kubernetes
  • Build strong customer relationships and continuously improve processes

Requirements

  • Advanced knowledge of Linux-based operating systems
  • Advanced knowledge of networking
  • Experience using AWS, Azure, Google Cloud (GCloud), and DigitalOcean
  • Debugging Unix-based operating systems and IP-based networking at a very low level
  • Experience with RHEL and Debian-based Linux distributions
  • Experience debugging container-based workloads and runtime tooling such as LXC/D, Docker, and Podman
  • Experience with container orchestration systems such as Kubernetes and Docker Swarm
  • Experience with Linux-based hypervisor systems and tooling such as KVM, Xen/XCP-ng, and Proxmox
  • Good scripting skills with Bash and Python
  • 5+ years of experience performing the listed work
  • Willingness to work some after-hours
  • Canadian citizenship or permanent residency in Canada
  • 2-year technical diploma (CIS or CS) or greater is listed as extra awesome
  • Experience with Linux consulting or contracting is extra awesome
  • Experience with ConnectWise or another ticketing and time-tracking system is extra awesome
  • Experience with Linux database performance tuning, debugging, clustering, and SQL is extra awesome
  • High-level networking experience is extra awesome
  • Software development experience is extra awesome
  • Certifications on AWS, Azure, Kubernetes, RHEL, or similar platforms are extra awesome
  • Resume and cover letter must include the word “Pepsi”
