About the role

  • Financial Analyst Intern supporting payroll, reconciliations, journal entries, and month-end accounting. Helping EQ Bank, Canada's Challenger Bank, improve financial processes and automation.

Responsibilities

  • Support accounting processes for PC Bank and PC Insurance payroll, expense reports, and intercompany transactions
  • Prepare bi-weekly payroll journal entries for PC Insurance and PC Bank
  • Review payroll register mapping to correct General Ledger accounts
  • Prepare bi-weekly expense reporting journal entries
  • Perform payroll reconciliations and analyze monthly payroll costs
  • Raise payroll issues or concerns to the Director in a timely manner
  • Process payroll vendor payments in coordination with payroll, finance, and treasury teams
  • Support PC Insurance month-end processes, including journal entries, reconciliations, and actual-to-budget variance analysis
  • Book and reconcile intercompany entries for PC Bank and PC Insurance
  • Coordinate with finance teams to align intercompany balances
  • Support accounting automation initiatives and continuous improvement to reduce manual processes
  • Handle ad hoc requests and reporting
  • Coordinate actively with Payroll, Treasury, other finance teams, and vendors

Requirements

  • Post-secondary education in Business, Accounting or Finance
  • A CPA designation or in process of obtaining one or related equivalent international designation
  • Minimum of 1–2 years of related accounting and finance experience, preferably in payroll accounting, month end processing and reconciliations
  • Intermediate to Advanced MS Excel
  • Experience with SAP is an asset
  • Aptitude for figures and strong attention to detail
  • Good relationship management, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Excellent time management and analytical skills
  • Straightforward communication skills, including providing information, attending internal meetings, composing letters, and completing forms
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check and credit check
