About the role
- Staff Backend Software Engineer building and operating Go-based distributed observability databases for Grafana Cloud. Owning reliability, performance, Kubernetes services, and open-source contributions.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, operate, and maintain critical systems, owning reliability, performance, and availability
- Influence the roadmap and personal career objectives
- Work with the team to deliver new features and iterate based on results
- Drive projects from ideation through operations after release to customers
- Contribute to open-source projects beyond the team’s direct scope
- Participate in on-call rotations and own operated services
- Mentor and support team members
- Participate in design discussions and collaborate with the team
- Learn the cloud product, customer needs, and large distributed-system codebase
Requirements
- Solid experience with at least one programming language; familiarity with Go, Python, C, C++, Rust or similar
- Some experience delivering projects from requirements gathering and brainstorming through shipping to customers
- Some experience developing software that runs in the Cloud or experience with systems engineering
- Experience writing clean, robust, performant, and maintainable software
- Ability to work independently in a fully remote setup
- Good communication skills
- Experience with low-level code for databases, storage layers, or query engines is a bonus
- Experience with Kubernetes is a bonus
- Experience using Grafana and/or Prometheus in operational roles is a bonus
- Exposure to microservices architecture and distributed systems, or desire to learn, is a bonus
- Familiarity with on-call, operations/SRE tasks, or infrastructure as code is a bonus
