About the role
- Senior Full Stack Engineer building search, ranking, and AI-powered talent matching experiences at Greenhouse. Developing full-stack employer-facing workflows with OpenSearch or Elasticsearch.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with Product Managers and Designers to define requirements and drive product development from conception to launch
- Build and improve full-stack experiences for Talent Matching, Talent Rediscovery, and related talent discovery workflows
- Design and ship search-backed capabilities using OpenSearch or Elasticsearch
- Develop indexing strategies, query designs, relevance tuning, ranking improvements, and semantic retrieval patterns
- Develop matching systems combining keyword, structured, and semantic signals
- Apply AI/ML techniques including embeddings, similarity search, classification, and ranking
- Partner with Applied ML and cross-functional engineering teams to evaluate relevance, latency, reliability, infrastructure cost, and user trust trade-offs
- Mentor junior and mid-level engineers
- Conduct thorough code reviews and contribute to team engineering practices
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience writing production code
- Deep production experience with OpenSearch or Elasticsearch, including indexing, query design, relevance tuning, and performance trade-offs
- Experience with Ruby, C#, Java, or Python
- Ruby on Rails preferred
- Strong JavaScript or TypeScript fundamentals, including React
- Full-stack experience across backend systems, APIs, data modeling, and modern frontend development
- Experience building search, ranking, recommendation, or matching systems
- Practical production experience applying AI or ML techniques such as embeddings, semantic search, classification, or ranking
- Experience collaborating with Product and Design in ambiguous, user-facing problem spaces
- Experience with analytical databases is a plus
- Must be legally eligible to work in Canada as of the start date chosen by the Company
