About the role
- Senior Data Engineer building finance data pipelines and models for Instacart’s grocery delivery platform. Owning financial data infrastructure supporting accounting, billing, invoicing, and reporting.
Responsibilities
- Work with finance, accounting, billing, and revenue teams to translate pain points into self-serve, reliable, and scalable data solutions
- Mentor team members and champion engineering excellence across the organization
- Manage initiatives from design through execution with substantial ownership and autonomy
- Suggest and drive organization-wide initiatives shaping the financial data vision and roadmap
- Own critical data integration pipelines and models for uniform, reliable, timely, and accurate financial reporting
- Define and standardize financial data models and infrastructure supporting book close, retailer invoicing, and financial reporting
Requirements
- 8+ years of working experience in a Data/Software Engineering role focused on data pipelines, specialized in financial data
- Strong knowledge of cloud-based warehouses such as Snowflake, Redshift, and BigQuery
- Strong knowledge of Python, Airflow, Spark, Iceberg, and Delta Lake in production environments
- Expert data modeling experience with complex financial data
- Expert proficiency in SQL and dbt (Data Build Tool)
- Experience building complex, high-quality ETL/ELT pipelines, including accounting and billing pipelines
- Experience with data immutability, auditability, slowly changing dimensions, or similar concepts
- Ability to communicate fluently with cross-functional stakeholders to drive requirements and design shared datasets
- Ability to balance urgency with high-quality, pragmatic solutions
- Experience working with large codebases on cross-functional teams
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, or equivalent work experience (preferred)
- Experience with SOX-controlled data systems (preferred)
