About the role
- Senior Software Engineer building backend coupon merchandising services for Instacart, a grocery delivery platform. Driving experiments, APIs, distributed-system optimization, and web, iOS, and Android experiences.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and own backend services, APIs, and data integrations powering coupon merchandising
- Implement and iterate on end-to-end experiments with Product and Data Science teams
- Launch, measure, and refine A/B tests that move key metrics
- Execute codebase and product optimizations improving reliability, performance, and cost efficiency across distributed systems
- Collaborate cross-functionally to define roadmaps, success metrics, and guardrails
- Communicate tradeoffs in a fast-paced, experiment-driven environment
- Maintain engineering standards through code reviews, testing, documentation, and architecture decisions
- Partner with frontend and mobile engineers to deliver experiences across web, iOS, and Android
Requirements
- 4+ years of professional software engineering experience focused on backend development
- Proficiency in at least one modern backend language and framework, such as Go, Python/Django, Flask/FastAPI, Java/Spring, Ruby/Rails, or Node.js/Express
- Experience designing and operating RESTful or gRPC APIs and production microservices
- Strong knowledge of relational databases such as PostgreSQL and MySQL
- Knowledge of caching/NoSQL stores such as Redis and DynamoDB
- Ability to write and optimize SQL
- Experience collaborating with Product and Data Science on data-informed features and experiment results
- Experience deploying and operating services on public cloud platforms such as AWS or GCP
- Experience with containers such as Docker and Kubernetes or similar orchestration
- Ability to write clean, maintainable code
- Strong debugging skills and solid unit/integration testing practices
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent practical experience
