About the role

  • Civil Construction Foreman managing field operations and ensuring project completion in Nanaimo and Port Alberni, BC. Leading project teams while adhering to safety and quality standards.

Responsibilities

  • Follow all safety protocols and contribute to the success of the safety program
  • Direct field operations in the delivery of projects by adhering to schedules, budgets, safety, and risk
  • Ensure material receiving reports are completed in a timely manner after deliveries
  • Effectively manage field employees by providing guidance and leadership on construction activities and developing effective communication between field and other project staff
  • Develop and execute project work plans aimed at keeping projects on track and on budget
  • Provide senior level presence in the field, coach field staff on issue resolution, review site labour requirements, mentor field staff and perform succession planning
  • Work directly with PM’s to identify changes in work
  • Organize and manage trucking and sub trades on site
  • Interface with the client and other contractors on site
  • Perform quality control duties and responsibilities regarding the work being performed
  • Communicate with project team regarding Site Instructions, Requests for Information, and Material Submittals
  • Ensure that subcontractor is fully executing and complying with their contracted scope of work
  • Coordinate required inspections with local, jurisdictions and/or authorities
  • Identify subcontractor non-compliance with safety, health, and environmental quality standards
  • Identify conflicts in construction progress and communicate them to the project team for resolution
  • Maintain daily log (written) of activities on the jobsite
  • Ensure subcontractor has corrected all deficiencies identified by the project team
  • Walk all areas of the project daily to monitor activities and assist in future planning
  • Preside over weekly subcontractor meetings designed to coordinate the work
  • Issue notices of non-compliance to subcontractors in regards to quality of work or scheduling
  • Ensure that the job site is always kept in a clean and organized manner
  • Perform job progress and completion punch list identification and completion
  • To have a complete knowledge and understanding of the General Contract across all division of work.

Requirements

  • Ability to read and interpret civil and foundation drawings
  • In-depth knowledge of civil construction procedures, equipment and OH&S guidelines
  • 5+ years’ experience in civil construction
  • Strong leadership, communication, coaching, and supervisory skills
  • Positive attitude and works well with others
  • Professional demeanour when dealing with the public, crew, and clients
  • Able to work outside in all-weather at all times of the year
  • Physically fit and able to lift 50 pounds or more
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Ability to read and understand specifications.
