About the role
- Civil Construction Foreman managing field operations and ensuring project completion in Nanaimo and Port Alberni, BC. Leading project teams while adhering to safety and quality standards.
Responsibilities
- Follow all safety protocols and contribute to the success of the safety program
- Direct field operations in the delivery of projects by adhering to schedules, budgets, safety, and risk
- Ensure material receiving reports are completed in a timely manner after deliveries
- Effectively manage field employees by providing guidance and leadership on construction activities and developing effective communication between field and other project staff
- Develop and execute project work plans aimed at keeping projects on track and on budget
- Provide senior level presence in the field, coach field staff on issue resolution, review site labour requirements, mentor field staff and perform succession planning
- Work directly with PM’s to identify changes in work
- Organize and manage trucking and sub trades on site
- Interface with the client and other contractors on site
- Perform quality control duties and responsibilities regarding the work being performed
- Communicate with project team regarding Site Instructions, Requests for Information, and Material Submittals
- Ensure that subcontractor is fully executing and complying with their contracted scope of work
- Coordinate required inspections with local, jurisdictions and/or authorities
- Identify subcontractor non-compliance with safety, health, and environmental quality standards
- Identify conflicts in construction progress and communicate them to the project team for resolution
- Maintain daily log (written) of activities on the jobsite
- Ensure subcontractor has corrected all deficiencies identified by the project team
- Walk all areas of the project daily to monitor activities and assist in future planning
- Preside over weekly subcontractor meetings designed to coordinate the work
- Issue notices of non-compliance to subcontractors in regards to quality of work or scheduling
- Ensure that the job site is always kept in a clean and organized manner
- Perform job progress and completion punch list identification and completion
- To have a complete knowledge and understanding of the General Contract across all division of work.
Requirements
- Ability to read and interpret civil and foundation drawings
- In-depth knowledge of civil construction procedures, equipment and OH&S guidelines
- 5+ years’ experience in civil construction
- Strong leadership, communication, coaching, and supervisory skills
- Positive attitude and works well with others
- Professional demeanour when dealing with the public, crew, and clients
- Able to work outside in all-weather at all times of the year
- Physically fit and able to lift 50 pounds or more
- Valid Driver’s License
- Ability to read and understand specifications.
