Hardware Engineering Lead responsible for leading design activities for naval communication systems. Collaborating with mechanical and electrical engineers in a multi-disciplinary team environment.
Responsibilities
Plan and estimate hardware engineering work-scope for projects
Ensure effective prioritization and assignment of tasks amongst the hardware engineering and drafting teams and follow up to verify timely completion and adequate quality for engineering work products
Become familiar with hardware related requirements including environmental and human factors requirements
Develop designs for shipboard electronics cabinets, enclosures and assemblies
Develop rugged designs that incorporate off-the-shelf electronics and equipment
Support the selection of hardware components for system designs
Develop evidence portfolios to substantiate design compliance with allocated requirements – eg. weight and power budgets, thermal analyses, shock and vibration analysis
Ensure designs can be built and provide support to investigate and resolve design issues identified during build, integration and testing
Write and/or review technical contents for documentation deliverables
Plan and manage the budget and resources allocated for hardware engineering activities
Contribute to process improvements
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related discipline
A minimum of 6 years of relevant experience
Competency to practice engineering in electrical and/or mechanical engineering disciplines
Comprehensive knowledge of engineering design for shipboard electronics cabinets and distributed communication equipment and assemblies
Ability to interpret standards and apply them to the design process
Experience working in the defence sector
Experience ruggedizing off-the-shelf equipment
Familiarity with 2D and 3D CAD tools
Practical knowledge using computational models (eg. ANSYS) and ability to interpret modeling results
Familiarity with Military Standards and/or other design standards related to hardware design
Knowledge of voice and data communication, radio communication, and/or satellite communication systems
Experience leading an engineering or technical team
Licensed Professional Engineer or other relevant professional certification
Must be eligible for registration with the Controlled Goods Program; Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a government of Canada Reliability status and Secret Level 2/NATO Secret security clearance; Must be eligible to meet the requirements for U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).
