About the role

  • Archival Research Assistant researching the history of Law Society’s Great Library. Preparing for activities to celebrate its bicentennial in 2027.

Responsibilities

  • Researching the history of the Law Society’s Great Library
  • Preparing activities to mark the bicentennial of the library in 2027
  • Locate, evaluate, and analyze material relating to the Great Library
  • Conduct secondary source and image research
  • Digitizing relevant records and material according to archival standards
  • Organizing material and ingesting documents into a SharePoint library
  • Re-describing material in the archival collection according to archival standards
  • Participating in activity planning meetings and departmental team meetings

Requirements

  • Enrolled in a graduate-level archives / information studies university degree
  • Previous experience working in an archives
  • Familiarity with scanning equipment and software
  • Familiarity with copyright and its application to materials in all media
  • Familiarity with applying the Rules for Archival Description (RAD)
  • Experience using Adobe, Minisis CAMS (archives management system), and SharePoint are assets
  • Excellent research, analytical, communication, and time management skills
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
