About the role

  • Technical Artist optimizing art pipelines, shaders, and mobile-game performance for Ludia, a Montreal mobile-game studio. Bridging art and programming across multiple game projects.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and optimize pipelines, tools, and shaders used by the art teams.
  • Optimize assets, shaders, and visual effects to balance visual quality and mobile performance.
  • Profile performance and collaborate with artists and programmers to diagnose and resolve technical issues.
  • Design tools, scripts, and pipelines in Python/C# to automate art production.
  • Create and optimize shaders and materials, and document standards and best practices.
  • Act as a bridge between Art and Engineering by translating creative needs into technical solutions.
  • Support, train, and mentor artists on tools, pipelines, and asset integration.
  • Take ownership of complex initiatives depending on experience level and contribute to the evolution of Technical Art practices.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in Technical Art.
  • Experience with Unity or Unreal and a solid understanding of 2D/3D pipelines.
  • Proven experience in mobile game development.
  • Experience in graphics optimization, profiling, and creating/modifying shaders on mobile platforms.
  • Strong understanding of real-time rendering: lighting, textures, visual effects, and particle systems.
  • Scripting skills in Python and C#.
  • Familiarity with 3ds Max, Unity, Photoshop, and Figma.
  • Good artistic eye to align technical solutions with the art direction.
  • Experience with Git or Perforce.
  • Analytical mindset, autonomy, and the ability to navigate both artistic and technical challenges.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Candidates must be located in the Province of Quebec and have the legal right to work in Canada.
  • Bilingualism in French and English is an asset.
