About the role

  • Senior Underwriting Consultant assessing complex high-net-worth life insurance risks for Manulife. Collaborating with sales and head office teams to deliver competitive underwriting decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Communicate and collaborate with sales and head office colleagues to provide high-quality, competitive decisions to high-net-worth customers
  • Conduct risk assessment and classification according to Manulife's philosophy and standards
  • Maintain positive and effective relationships with internal and external partners
  • Deliver strong customer experiences through significant interactions
  • Comply with consumer laws and regulations regarding risk classification, confidentiality, and disclosure
  • Identify and propose solutions to underwriting-related problems and procedures

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of underwriting experience
  • $5,000,000+ Life signing authority
  • Experience and exposure working within the high net worth market
  • Sales and relationship-focused mindset with a drive for earning business
  • Working towards or completion of FALU, FLMI, and ACS designations
  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology, including physiology, anatomy, pharmacology, imaging, diagnostic testing, and treatments
  • Strong knowledge of how non-medical risks impact mortality, including hazardous occupations, sports, avocations, and lifestyle
  • Experience with financial reports
  • Training in anti-money laundering practices
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Bilingualism in English and French required for successful candidates in Québec; otherwise a strong asset
  • 100,000+ CI authority preferred
  • University or college degree in a related discipline preferred
  • Strong negotiation skills preferred
  • Interest in external presentations, panels, or conferences preferred
  • Experience in co-signing, referral reviews, and mentoring preferred
