Protection & Controls Engineer supporting electrical power system infrastructure with installation, testing, and maintenance of systems in British Columbia, Canada.
Responsibilities
Install, commission, test, troubleshoot, and maintain protection relays, control systems, RTUs, DFRs, and substation automation equipment.
Perform functional testing of protection and control schemes for transformers, breakers, feeders, buses, lines, reactors, and capacitor banks.
Assist with RTU and telecommunications system upgrades and configurations.
Work with SEL protection relays (preferred) and gain exposure to GE relay platforms.
Interpret one-line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, and configuration files.
Complete accurate testing, commissioning, and maintenance documentation.
Maintain company tools, test equipment, and assigned vehicle in safe working condition.
Requirements
5–7 years of hands-on experience in protection and controls, substation commissioning, or power system testing.
Diploma or Associate’s degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Power Systems, Protection & Controls, or a related field.
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent discipline is an asset.
Completion of industry training in Protection & Controls, relay testing, or substation commissioning.
NETA Certification (Level I–III) or equivalent testing certification preferred.
Manufacturer relay training (e.g., SEL, GE) is an asset.
Working knowledge of: SEL relays (311, 387, 421, 487, 587, 787 series), GE relays (C30, D60, F35, L90 – exposure preferred), RTU and communication platforms such as GE, SEL, Cooper, Telvent, or Novatech.
