About the role
- Senior software engineer building backend data services, APIs, microservices, and pipelines for Akamai’s distributed cloud platform. Optimizing databases and reliability across high-scale workloads.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and scale backend data services and APIs supporting high-throughput, low-latency workloads
- Architect and evolve microservices, including service boundaries, communication patterns, and failure isolation
- Design distributed systems for scalability, fault tolerance, consistency, and reliability across multiple regions
- Optimize and maintain PostgreSQL and Oracle relational database systems, schemas, indexing strategies, and high-availability setups
- Build and maintain high-volume, high-velocity data pipelines while owning services end-to-end
- Diagnose and resolve complex performance, scalability, and reliability issues
- Mentor engineers on system design
- Clarify requirements and drive execution
- Ensure alignment with DBA and SRE partners while providing hands-on technical development
Requirements
- 8 years of relevant experience
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related technical field, or its equivalent
- Experience in Python, Java, or Go
- Ability to write production-grade, maintainable backend code
- Deep knowledge of PostgreSQL and relational databases
- Experience with schema design, query optimization, and high-availability configurations
- Experience designing, building, and scaling microservices architectures in production environments
- Knowledge of DBA tasks
- Knowledge of data structures, algorithms, and complexity analysis
- Knowledge of RESTful APIs, containerization, orchestration, CI/CD pipelines, and major cloud platforms
