Responsibilities
Act as a subject matter expert and advisor on Canadian and international payroll
Ensure payroll practices comply with legal, tax, and regulatory requirements
Monitor legislative, tax, and regulatory changes and assess their impacts
Design, document, and execute pre- and post-payroll quality controls
Participate in internal and external audits and follow up on recommendations
Maintain payroll policies, procedures, and controls
Plan, coordinate, and carry out year-end payroll activities, including tax slips
Act as the escalation point for complex matters related to taxation, employee mobility, restructurings, and compliance
Lead the evolution and optimization of payroll systems and tools
Collaborate on the configuration of business rules, payroll codes, and complex parameters
Validate configuration changes, coordinate testing, and support go-live activities
Support the integration of acquisitions and new entities into payroll systems and processes
Lead the development, review, optimization, and documentation of payroll processes
Identify opportunities for improvement and recommend solutions to increase efficiency, reliability, and automation
Contribute to payroll transformation projects and support stakeholders through change
Process or oversee the most complex payroll cases
Advise the payroll team on technical, regulatory, and operational matters
Support team members in resolving complex situations and contribute to the development of their expertise
Collaborate with the Manager, Total Rewards, to prioritize activities and resolve operational issues
Provide operational backup to ensure business continuity
Take responsibility for processing one payroll group each week
Requirements
College or university education in business administration, accounting, or a related field
PCP (Payroll Compliance Practitioner) certification from the National Payroll Institute, or currently working toward it; certification is a significant asset
Minimum of 10 years of payroll management experience
Extensive experience managing payroll in a Canadian multi-jurisdictional environment
Experience in an acquisitions, entity integration, or organizational transformation environment
Proficiency with payroll management systems, as well as ERP and HRIS platforms dedicated to payroll data processing; Dayforce expertise is a significant asset
Strong understanding of Canadian payroll legislation
Knowledge of U.S. regulations is an asset
Strong analytical and complex problem-solving skills
Exceptional attention to detail and a strong commitment to accuracy
Ability to influence and support team members without necessarily having direct managerial responsibility
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft 365 tools
Fluency in English, as the position requires interaction with English-speaking partners and colleagues in the United States and Western Canada
