Lead technician maintaining and troubleshooting wind turbines for Nordex, a global onshore wind-energy manufacturer. Training technicians, managing safety, repairs, and preventive maintenance at the Quebec site.
Responsibilities
Support the company’s mission to develop and deliver clean power plants and make renewable energy a reality
Lead installation and maintenance of wind turbines and related equipment at the assigned site
Inspect, operate, troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair wind turbines and associated equipment
Train and support Service Technicians in component assembly, commissioning, testing, repair, and maintenance
Train technicians in preventative maintenance processes, including infrared fault detection, corona, and ultrasonic surveys
Lead troubleshooting, calibration, repair, and retrofitting of low- to medium-voltage electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic components and switchgear
Conduct and review safety analyses of electrical and mechanical hazards
Train personnel in the use of safety gear, protective equipment, and energy-source controls
Perform root cause analyses to determine equipment failures
Monitor tool, consumables, and spare-parts inventories
Provide leadership to Service Technicians
Complete and maintain corrective and preventive maintenance documentation and records
Ensure safety, health, cleanliness, and equipment requirements are met
Schedule and track wind turbine preventive maintenance progress
Maintain required training certifications and qualifications
Perform other assigned responsibilities
Requirements
Associate degree or technical school certificate, or 4 or more years of directly related work experience in place of a degree/technical certificate
5 years of directly related work experience
Maintain required training certifications as required to perform assigned job assignments
Familiarity with mechanical and electrical testing equipment, including various hand and power tools
Ability to be certified and work with both medium and high voltage equipment
Proficient with computers and standard software applications
Experience with SAP/J.D. Edwards and Maximo systems is a plus
Flexibility to work overtime and rotating shifts as required
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
Able to work independently or in a team environment
Ability to climb vertical ladders, work at heights of 100 meters (300+ feet), and move and manipulate up to 23kg (50 pounds)
Ability to work indoors and outdoors in adverse and extreme weather conditions, dust, pollen, weeds, grass, and confined spaces
Full, valid driver’s license and insurability under the company auto insurance policy
Ability to safely travel to the wind farm within 45 minutes in an emergency
Must be able to work in Canada without company sponsorship and travel to the US for training
Ability to successfully complete Canadian pre-employment screening requirements
Ability to travel to domestic and international locations for work and/or training for extended periods
Ability to meet specific climb equipment weight limits of 120 kg (265 lbs) or less
Strong understanding of and commitment to safety protocols and procedures
Ability to comply with safety regulations and company policies
Ability to identify and mitigate potential safety hazards
Proper use of applicable safety equipment
Ability to communicate effectively with team members and management
Speak and understand English fluently
