About the role

  • Hotfix Developer resolving urgent production issues for Paystone, a North American payments and software company. Investigating transactional data, coding fixes, and deploying reliable client solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Investigate and resolve urgent production issues raised by Success, Support, Project or Account Management
  • Write and execute SQL queries for data corrections, imports, exports, and reporting fixes
  • Perform root-cause analysis on transactional data, logs, and system behaviors
  • Read and understand the PHP/Symfony codebase to troubleshoot issues and confirm system logic
  • Build and run custom PHP and SQL scripts for bulk updates, data migrations, or exports
  • Deploy fixes safely using internal tools such as Phing, with rollback plans when necessary
  • Collaborate with Support, Success, Account Management, Core, and other cross-functional teams to clarify requirements and validate solutions
  • Document fixes thoroughly in Jira, including logic, risks, and testing steps
  • Participate in Hotfix sprint planning, standups, and reviews
  • Maintain and improve Hotfix workflows, documentation, and best practices
  • Provide proactive communication on ticket progress, risks, and blockers

Requirements

  • 2–4 years of experience in software development, technical support engineering, or a developer-facing technical role
  • Strong SQL skills, including queries, updates, imports/exports, and data validation
  • Solid understanding of debugging and troubleshooting transactional or log-based systems
  • Proficiency in PHP and familiarity with the Symfony framework
  • Experience with Git workflows and deployment pipelines
  • Familiarity with MySQL Workbench, Docker, and Graylog or similar logging tools
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving mindset
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure with tight deadlines
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, especially with non-technical stakeholders
  • Experience building or maintaining exports, reporting tools, or custom client scripts is nice to have
  • Familiarity with ACH processing is nice to have
  • Prior client-facing support, success, or technical troubleshooting experience is nice to have
  • Experience documenting technical fixes for non-technical audiences is nice to have
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
