About the role

  • Substation Design Manager delivering reliable, cost-effective solar construction projects for PCL Solar Constructors Canada Inc. Managing contracts, safety, budgets, schedules, design coordination, and project closeout.

Responsibilities

  • Provide overall contract administration, technical expertise, and support to a medium size construction project.
  • Develop and implement the project safety plan and lead by example for health and safety practices and procedures.
  • Ensure the project is constructed according to design, budget, resources, quality, and schedule.
  • Understand client drivers and offer value engineering proposals for functionality, cost, and schedule benefit.
  • Manage project performance and provide performance status reports for safety, cost forecast, and schedule.
  • Negotiate and issue subcontracts, major purchase orders, and progress payments and monitor their progress and schedule.
  • Understand, communicate, and enforce the contract and contract documents.
  • Develop and coordinate overall project closeout.
  • Identify and manage risk and opportunities on construction projects.
  • For design-build project deliveries, monitor design progress, compliance issues, quality, coordination, constructability, and timing of deliverables.
  • Assist the project team lead in obtaining a comprehensive design-management and design-quality plan and conduct periodic quality audits.
  • Keep all parties informed of opportunities and challenges and manage stakeholder expectations through appropriate communication.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in engineering, construction management, or a related field.
  • 8–10 years of progressive construction experience with leadership and mentoring preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience implementing a strong safety culture by application of health, safety, and environment principles and legislation.
  • In-depth knowledge of construction industry including building materials, construction specifications, methods and procedures, construction law and building codes, and safety and quality management practices.
  • Strong planning, organizational, and time management skills including the ability to manage project budgets and schedules.
  • Ability to identify and manage risk and opportunities on construction projects.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders and decision makers.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, project management and scheduling software, with a strong aptitude for adopting new technology.
