About the role
- Senior AI Platform Developer building reusable, secure AI-agent infrastructure for Petal, a Canadian healthcare orchestration and billing company. Driving Azure-based platform capabilities across orchestration, evaluation, observability, and governance.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and operate AI-specific platform capabilities for product teams
- Build services for agent orchestration, runtime execution, tool integration, lifecycle management, evaluation, observability, and governance
- Create agent catalogs, workflow builders, Agent IAM, operational stores, evaluation frameworks, prompt/configuration management, guardrails, retrieval services, and Agent Observability
- Build reusable APIs, SDKs, templates, reference implementations, and documentation
- Partner with application teams on AI Platform needs while maintaining ownership boundaries
- Support secure and governed integration with internal APIs, data sources, knowledge systems, and Azure AI services
- Define standards for deployment, monitoring, evaluation, access control, cost management, and responsible AI
- Reduce duplicated AI-agent infrastructure through reusable building blocks
- Mentor developers and shape technical direction
- Own complex initiatives from design through production
- Represent the AI Platform team in cross-functional discussions about AI architecture, safety, evaluation, and agent operations
Requirements
- 10+ years of hands-on experience building and operating SaaS products
- Strong experience building production-grade backend, platform, AI infrastructure, or agent infrastructure services
- Experience designing distributed systems, APIs, cloud-native services, and developer-facing capabilities for internal engineering teams
- Hands-on experience with modern AI/LLM infrastructure, including agent orchestration, retrieval, tool calling, evaluation pipelines, Agent IAM, Agent Observability, model gateways, or responsible AI guardrails
- Strong understanding of secure, observable, testable, governed, reliable, and cost-aware AI systems in production
- Ability to define technical direction and turn AI Platform concepts into usable services
- Strong collaboration across product, engineering, security, data, and application teams
- Ability to mentor developers and raise the technical bar
- Experience with Azure Native Services, Azure AI Foundry, Azure AI Search, Azure Cognitive Services, LangGraph, Python, Node.js, TypeScript, Angular, semantic search, vector search, retrieval pipelines, RBAC, secrets management, audit trails, and AI evaluation frameworks
