About the role

Staff Engineer building fraud, risk, and safety infrastructure for Phantom, a global self-custody crypto wallet. Developing real-time controls, KYC systems, and investigation tooling.

Responsibilities

Build real-time risk controls and decisioning systems for ACH, debit cards, onramps, off-ramps, and other money movement experiences
Develop signals, models, and product interventions to identify malicious wallets, transactions, applications, and user behavior
Build scalable KYC, sanctions screening, transaction monitoring, case management, and audit systems
Create pipelines and tools combining on-chain activity, product data, and third-party signals into actionable risk insights
Partner with product and engineering teams to design safeguards into new features
Build internal tools for Risk, Compliance, Support, and Security teams to investigate incidents and take action
Help establish technical foundations and engineering culture for a new high-impact function

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience
8+ years of full-time software engineering experience
Experience designing and operating reliable, data-intensive production systems
Strong product judgment and ability to balance user experience, financial risk, and operational complexity
Ability to work across frontend, backend, APIs, data pipelines, and third-party integrations
Demonstrated interest in protecting users and building trustworthy financial products
English language proficiency
Nice to have: experience with fraud, risk, identity, KYC, AML, sanctions, payments, fintech, or blockchain systems
