About the role

  • Student software developer building banking technology at Royal Bank of Canada. Developing, testing, troubleshooting, and documenting software across technology and operations teams.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with peers to develop code aligned with strategic initiatives
  • Develop, troubleshoot, enhance, and document software components according to requirements and detailed design
  • Translate requirements into functional specifications and coordinate design phases
  • Identify, track, and resolve technical issues
  • Create and review technical design documents
  • Facilitate meetings to design, troubleshoot, and execute projects
  • Participate in walkthrough reviews of technical specifications, programs, code, and unit test plans
  • Conduct unit testing using automated unit testing frameworks
  • Improve function performance through performance tuning
  • Plan design and implementation activities and ensure technical solution quality
  • Provide third-level support for various technologies
  • Drive technical platform evolution and improvements
  • Present technical topics at regular TSA meetings
  • Manage low-level planning of work packages
  • Estimate design, coding, and unit-testing activities

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled at a Canadian post-secondary institution, focusing on computer science, engineering, or technology
  • Eligible to complete a full 12-month co-op term with their school
  • Leadership acumen and passion to apply it in a dynamic business environment
  • Excellent interpersonal and highly developed verbal and written communication skills
  • Creative and analytical thinker who is self-driven and able to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong MS Office skills, including Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Experience or understanding of programming languages, databases, platforms, frameworks, design techniques and tools, code management tooling, and/or web technologies
  • Knowledge of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), including Agile, Waterfall, and Iterative methods
  • Knowledge of Unified Modeling Language (UML) is nice-to-have
  • Ability to hand-code all components and cross-browser development experience are nice-to-have
