About the role
- Activation Therapist delivering therapeutic recreation programs for long-term-care residents at Peel Region’s Tall Pines LTC. Supporting restorative, social, emotional, and physical wellbeing.
Responsibilities
- Assist the Activation Department in formulating, implementing, evaluating, and modifying individual and group therapeutic modalities
- Address residents’ restorative, social, emotional, intellectual, spiritual, and physical needs, including responsive behaviours
- Implement and conduct specialized programs such as reminiscing and current events to enhance self-esteem and self-worth
- Assess residents’ recreation and leisure needs
- Coordinate and implement appropriate outreach services
- Assist the Rehabilitation Assistant with restorative care programs and activities
- Maintain effective relationships and communication with residents, staff, volunteers, and visitors
- Attend in-service education sessions, staff meetings, workshops, and other activities as directed by the Activation Services Supervisor
- Maintain appropriate records according to Centre policies, procedures, and legislated standards
- Report to the Supervisor, Resident Support Services, or designate
Requirements
- Post secondary diploma or degree in Recreation and Leisure studies, Therapeutic Recreation, Kinesiology, Gerontology or another related field from an Ontario post secondary institution, or an equivalent diploma or degree from another jurisdiction
- Valid Class G driver's licence
- Valid Class F licence or willingness to obtain it
- Valid CPR/First Aid certification
- Computer skills
- Teaching skills to convey techniques to guide residents and families
- Ability to work with minimum supervision and organize and assess programming
- Ability to perform all delegated duties physically
- Availability for varied shifts, including days, evenings, weekends, every other weekend, and holidays
- Food Handler Certification
- Smart Serve Certificate
- Organizational skills to prioritize work and coordinate scheduling with the health care team
- Effective oral and written communication skills
- Ability to communicate appropriately with residents, staff, volunteers and visitors
