About the role
- Backend Engineer owning Python/Django systems and production infrastructure for 3D AI Studio’s AI-generated 3D model platform. Improving reliability, security, performance, and backend features.
Responsibilities
- Take full ownership of the Python/Django backend and production infrastructure
- Work directly with the founder to review and improve code and build backend features
- Learn the backend and server alongside the current backend engineer and take over ownership
- Ship new backend features
- Help migrate the PostgreSQL database to Neon
- Manage the Hetzner Linux server, deployments, software updates and server security
- Investigate backend issues, resolve incidents and improve performance
- Maintain PostgreSQL and ensure background jobs, external API integrations, monitoring and backups run reliably
- Use AI coding tools daily while maintaining quality
Requirements
- Strong production experience building and maintaining backends with Python and Django
- Good PostgreSQL / SQL skills, including query optimisation and migrations
- Hands-on Linux server administration and production troubleshooting
- Experience with REST APIs, background jobs and task queues such as Celery / RabbitMQ
- Comfortable with Git, code reviews, testing and safe deployments
- Independent and reliable, with initiative to improve things and clearly communicate technical issues
- Active use of AI tools to enhance productivity and work quality, with curiosity about emerging capabilities and pragmatic day-to-day application
- Experience with Hetzner, Neon, Nginx, S3-compatible storage or CI/CD is a bonus
- Basic familiarity with 3D models and simple 3D workflows is a bonus; no advanced 3D expertise required
- Experience with AI APIs or media processing is a bonus
